Vyvanse: Can the ADHD/weight loss drug show up in a screening?

Answer. Yes.

Vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine dimesylate) is an amphetamine-type stimulant. As such it must be treated with caution. It has been used for the treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in children but was more recently approved in 2015 by the US FDA for the treatment of binge eating in adults. Even the US FDA considers that Vyvanse should not be used for general weight loss.

You will need to be aware of the following:

  1. Vyvanse is an amphetamine-type drug and as such prone to abuse and have a dependency potential;
  2. Vyvanse is a long-acting drug. This means that it is released gradually over time.
  3. You will need a current Australian prescription for its use.

Vyvanse will be detected in either an AusHealth urine or oral test.
